Bay of Biscay
(20 aquariums and more than 150 species)

This journey along the Gulf Stream offered by the Musée de la Mer Aquarium of Biarritz begins not far off the coast of Biarritz, in the depths of the Atlantic Ocean. This unique presentation highlights the originality of the Gulf Stream, travelling the seas and oceans of the world.

The introduction to a fascinating voyage, this first area is devoted to wildlife from the Bay of Biscay. The 20 aquariums permit us to observe a lively collection of 150 species from the Bay (seahorse, octopus, rays, grouper, halibut, squid, John Dory...). This area is part of the original museum.

The following rooms are devoted to collections of the museum (complete whale and dolphin skeletons, Biarritz fishing techniques and equipment, history of the Bay of Biscay and the famous Basque fishermen, ...), where the visitor finds themselves seemingly on the deck of a ship offering a vast panorama of the ocean. You then encounter one of our major attractions on the terrace : the great seal pool !
North Atlantic
Leaving the Basque coastline, join us on an exploration of our aquarium.

Plunge once again into the deep !

Before your eyes, watch as hundreds of jack fish fight against a current. This battle symbolises the Gulf Stream, the subject at the heart of our aquarium. Next up, we arrive in the Caribbean Sea... a colourful stopover to say the least.
Caribbean
(12 aquariums and 65 species)

This pause is an invitation to wonder. An aquarium over 11 meters long shows the extraordinary biodiversity of mangrove and lagoon : land and sea, over 220 fish move in the middle of mangrove roots.

Marvel at the life of a tropical lagoon and admire the evocative names of species : Caribbean sea urchins, long snouted seahorses, angelfish, trunk and porcupine fish, moray's and porcelain blue tang...
Indo-Pacific
(7 aquariums and ponds, with more than 320 species)

Once passed Cape Horn, the journey continues in the waters of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. You will discover amazing underwater scenery, and live an unforgettable encounter with more than 8,000 fish and living organisms.

A long aquarium reveals a fascinating coral reef full of life. The magnificent corals are home to a multitude of inhabitants : clown fish near the anemones, the uneasy ballet of the morays eels. Other aquariums helps you discover more amazing species like knife fish moving in groups... and always with their heads down !

The fascinating immersion continues. Our largest pool, one of the largest in Europe for volume (1,500 m3), as high as a three-story building, offers spectacular views featuring rays, sharks and barracudas...

Evolving with the 30 other sharks, your attention is quickly drawn to our Hammerhead sharks, where our aquarium is the only in Europe to offer this striking creature to the public... face to face.
